TAKING ADVANTAGE OF
THE CREDIT CRUNCH

With the economic climate currently blowing cold you may not think that recruitment would be high on anyone’s agenda at present. Fortunately that isn’t quite the case!

While some companies are rationalising, others are taking advantage of the current turmoil to strengthen their teams. It is quite clear that some sectors have been harder hit than others and certainly the waste industry appears to be better ‘insulated’ than many.

This has made the industry a much more attractive option for high calibre executives looking for career stability. Whereas some may have been a bit ‘sniffy’ in the past, the changing nature of the waste industry and its perceived job security has made it a much more appealing choice for many executives in related industries.

It has often been a struggle for businesses in the environmental services industry to find executives with the right experience and skills so farsighted Directors are taking advantage of the current climate to recruit and build high quality management teams ready for the upturn.

According to Stuart Spindler, “We have noticed that many of the larger private companies are taking a long term view and are recruiting with that in mind. They know that the current choice and availability of candidates may not be around forever and are taking the opportunity to recruit the cream of the crop.”

Stuart added, “If businesses have to make rationalisation decisions then they really need to take the human dimension into account and not base their decisions purely on cost. While the need to cut costs is an important consideration in the short-term, businesses need to ensure they maintain a backbone of talent which can take advantage when the upturn begins.”
