The Company
Arriva UK Trains is a major train operator in the UK, operating about 10 per cent of the UK passenger rail network through five rail contracts employing around 6,500 people.
Arriva Trains has ambitious growth plans and the strategy is to build upon the existing strong base and capitalise on a reputation for delivering excellent customer service and operational performance. A critical step in achieving this goal is the creation of a powerful bid team to develop compelling, successful bids, mobilise the new franchises and potentially migrate into the new management teams. Arriva are looking to appoint dynamic, self-motivated individuals, who will be instrumental to the future success of the company.
The Role
- To deliver the marketing plans and forecasts that make up the submission of rail franchise bids on time and within budget, ensuring that Arriva UK Trains has given itself the best possible chance of success.
- Under the direction of the Bid Commercial Director, lead the marketing work stream for an individual bid.
- Defining the scope, outputs and timescales of work from consultants and bid managers in order to deliver convincing plans that minimise DfT risk adjustment and maximise technical score.
- Identifying and addressing the impacts and interdependencies between plans and assisting the programme manager in managing the critical paths for each of their plans.
- Provide internal consultancy, advice and support to Arriva UK Trains TOCs as required to ensure the bid team maximises its contribution to the Group.
The Person
- Graduate calibre with proven high level of numeracy. Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills and commercial focus.
- Experience of UK rail franchise bidding would be an advantage.
- Extensive experience of marketing strategy within the transport sector, specifically relating to pricing and distribution strategy, service specification and customer relationship management.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, able to present convincing evidence based proposals at Board level whilst demonstrating an awareness of the wider business and political environment in which the rail industry operates.
